The king of Phablets returns with improved design and hardware. The last device under this series Mi max was a perfect device for multimedia consumption with its stellar battery life and a huge display.

Look and Feel:

  • 7.6mm thin unibody and curvy design is definitely one up from last year
  • Round finish provides a good grip
  • Little to no changes to physical placements of buttons compared to previous Mi Max
  • Fingerprint sensor is at the back and can store up to 5 fingerprints at a time
  • 6.44″ HD display(1920×1080) and comes with various options to tweak the display’s color temperature. Reading mode similar to OnePlus 5 is a great advantage for readers
  • Display is protected by curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • 3.5mm jack intact+IR blaster on the top(The IR blaster helps transform the device into a universal remote control for various home equipment)

Overall, we liked the design that has good hand feel and is easier to operate with one hand

Performance and Battery:

  • Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 processor with 4 GB RAM+64GB/128GB internal memory
  • Storage expansion supported up to 128GB through microSD card
  • 5300mAh huge battery will support you for approx 2 days with full charge with moderate to heavy usage
  • Quick charging supported 0 to 68% in 1 hour
  • MIUI now comes with one handed Mode
  • Near future will come with the additional feature of split screen in MIUI that will allow users to use 2 apps simultaneously. the update should be available soon
  • Performed decent and handled the high graphic games and process demanding apps with ease but little heat at the back of phone was noticed

  • 12MP at back + 5MP in front. Better camera compared to Mi Max
  • Basically not a camera oriented device
  • Camera supports PDAF autofocus for faster focusing, HDR, Panorama, and slo-mo videos at 720p at 120fps

Final Verdict:

If huge screen excites you then this is for you. It’s a great device for media consumption. But if you want similar functionality phone in small screen category then go for RedMi Note 4.
