This Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam is a selfie-centric phone and has really impressed with its camera, so let’s start the review with camera performance.

Camera:

The highlight or you can say USP of Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam is its front dual angle camera. There are 2 cameras in front. One is 20MP and another one is 8 MP. The 20MP high-resolution camera shoots selfies with stunning clarity and an 8MP widest-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view. With dual cameras and ASUS Selfie Master technology, you have the flexibility to either take a stunning selfie or capture widest angle selfies with your loved ones. Dim light selfie problem has been solved by providing soft light LED flash, present both in front and rear, that delivers the perfect amount of fill light — just like in studio — softening your skin’s texture and bringing out true skin tones to make you shine like a superstar in every selfie. The flash actually did a great job without blowing out the exposure. The color saturation was actually pleasing. The wide-angle camera also did the decent job and switching between wide and normal angle was quite easy.

Coming to the rear camera, Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie provides you the 16 MP rear camera. Though the phone is selfie centric, the rear camera also presents you amazing quality pictures in daylight. It comes with Pro mode option too, which gives you the freedom to adjust the setting of aperture white balance and shutter speed as per requirement. The low light picture in auto mode gave some blown out images but when settings were tweaked in Pro mode the result was pleasing. Portrait mode feature gives you the bokeh effect in your photo and the operation of the camera in pro mode gave me the feeling of handling DSLR settings.

If I go with the one-liner verdict of the camera: A well-crafted device for selfie lovers under this budget.

Design and Feel:

Lightweight, metal finish, and sleek body makes Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam a premium looking phone. Mobile fits perfectly in hand without any fear of slipping. The 5.5-inch Full HD Super IPS+ frameless 2.5D curved glass display gives it quite a cool look. The power button and the volume rockers have been placed on the right side of the body. While the left side of the body contains the sim and microSD slot. The dual Speaker system is provided at the bottom of the body. The charging slot has been sandwiched between the volume holes. The top of the body contains the earphone slot for 3.5mm jack. The back side of the phone has a LED flash followed by the 16MP camera. There are concentric circles detained around the 16MP rear camera lens, which shimmers with a radiant luster when viewed from different angles. This actually gives a classy look to your phone. The brand’s logo is engraved with a lustrous finish a few clicks below the camera. The home button is at the bottom of the front panel that doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. Two capacitive touch buttons are placed on either side of the home button. These are the back and multitasking buttons.

The 3 colors which are available right now are Sunlight gold, Deep sea black, and Rose pink. All colors are stunning and one has the option to choose according to his/her personality.

One line verdict on the basis of look and feel: It’s a stunner and you would love to show them off.

Performance:

Battery performance: It has a non-detachable battery of 3000 mAh which does a decent job and you will sail through the day with moderate use. Heavy gamers or GPS user might feel a need to juice it up in between otherwise 3000 mAh did the healthy job.

Gaming Performance: Though not a heavy gamer, Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam did a wonderful job while playing the games such as gangster vegas, Asphalt extreme, Asphalt 8 airborne etc. The minor heat was noticed while playing these games but that was acceptable.

Mobile performance: Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam features a powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor together with 4GB RAM/64GBROM. The storage is expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card. The phone is good with multitasking and we did not experience lags or shutters while switching between tabs. Asus has added all the basic sensors such as an accelerometer, proximity, and gyroscope. All the basic connectivity options such as 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and micro USB port.

Overall the performance was good so apart from taking a selfie and showing off you can play heavy games and use multiple apps without complaint.

Software Review:

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam is running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS out of the box and Zen UI running on top. The Asus has done the improvement by removing many unnecessary apps and has now moved on to Google apps such as Docs, Drive, Calendar, Gmail, Keep, Duo, Photos, Play Music, Maps, and Messages. Asus has also added Mobile Manager, where you can check the battery stats, the amount of RAM that the phone is consuming, data usage, battery modes, clear cache and also manage security and permissions. The Zen UI 4.0 presents:

  • new visual design

  • the gallery app has AI and facial recognition technology: easy to organize the photos by segregating as per the faces.

The answer to this is each company targets their product for their niche target audience. Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Cam is a selfie-centric phone and does deliver what it says. The features that needs a pat on their back are the front camera, stable performance, and the well-crafted design.
